Baker, Burton & Lundy’s Commitment to the South Bay

We believe in helping people and cultivating a fairer, more just society. We strive to do this not only through our law practice but also through our personal ties to the community. Many of our attorneys coach teams and serve on boards of local non-profits and we support Torrance Memorial Medical Center, H.E.L.P., Kiwanis, the Cancer Support Community and many schools from the local grade school in Hermosa Beach to high schools, and universities in our area. Our firm participates in many community events in the South Bay like the annual Skechers Friendship Walk which raises money for local schools and children’s organizations.

Winning Big – Giving Big, the 25% Pledge

When Baker, Burton & Lundy received the fees earned for work in the $1.7 billion dollar win against El Paso Gas Company, we set aside 25% of our fees to donate to charitable causes. Some of the primary recipients from this fund were the Legal Aid Society of San Diego, where this case was tried, and the organization Plant with Purpose, which reverses deforestation and poverty in the world.  Albro Lundy has been involved with Plant with Purpose since 19864 and currently serves as general counsel. Other major recipients included Smile Train, Trinity College and the LA Foundation.

Creating the Chair for Consumer Protection at Loyola Law School

When our team of attorneys recovered a second energy settlement, which benefited California consumers billions of dollars, against Sempra Energy for unfair business practices, Baker, Burton & Lundy pledged to contribute 25% again. In this instance, the primary donation helped to endow a chair for Consumer Protection at Loyola Law School. We believe that having a full-time professor focusing on teaching the law of consumer protection will inspire more lawyers to defend people from unfair business practices. In addition, at the end of the settlements, our partner Brad Baker presented the Legal Aid Society of San Diego with a $93,000 cy pres donation from the natural gas settlement.
